Senior and Family Public Affordable Housing Modernization

SV Design recently completed design work for the modernization of Ipswich Housing Authority’s Agawam Village. The development has seven buildings with 94 units including a mix of low-rise senior apartments and townhouse style family units. The scope of work includes both interior and exterior renovations as well as site improvements. The design prioritizes accessibility and creates welcoming spaces to both improve quality of life and make accommodations for residents to age in place. The exterior repair and modernization will ensure weather tightness for years to come while maintaining the charm and scale of the existing neighborhood. As a phased construction project and occupied renovation, the project team pivoted mid-design to a Chapter 149a construction delivery method. This change allowed the Housing Authority to bring on a Construction Manager earlier in the process to provide detailed feedback on schedule, cost, and constructability.
