Endicott College: Peter Frates Hall
Beverly, Massachusetts
Architecture

When Endicott College hired SV to design its newest student residences, we tested several sites to find a setting that would feel both private and connected to the rest of the campus. Deciding on a site that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, the new three-story, 39,000 square-foot building is now a prominent feature on Endicott’s picturesque campus. The residence hall houses 225 freshmen, and features study and lounge areas on each floor; plus outdoor spaces for formal and informal interaction. To meet the changing requirements of the academic calendar, an innovative modular unit system was specified and assembled on-site. A gallery in the first-floor lounge tells the inspiring story of Peter Frates, a renowned Beverly resident who co-founded the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS, after he himself was diagnosed with the devastating disease in 2013.
