Modernization of Ipswich Housing Authority's Agawam Village Complete
Ipswich, MA – SV Design and Colantonio Inc are pleased to announce the completion of a major renovation project at Agawam Village, a 94-unit affordable housing community serving families and seniors aged 62 and older.
The project was delivered in eleven phases of construction in partnership with Ipswich Housing Authority (IHA), Harborlight Homes, architecture firm SV Design, and builder Colantonio Inc.
Spanning seven buildings—four with apartment-style layouts for seniors and three featuring townhomes for families—the modernization project significantly improved living conditions across the property. Exterior repairs will ensure weather tightness for years to come while maintaining the charm and scale of the existing neighborhood. Interior upgrades included fully renovated kitchens and bathrooms outfitted with new cabinetry, appliances, flooring, and wall finishes. The team also installed new fire alarm systems, replaced select windows and siding, and completed full roofing replacements throughout the complex.

“The renovations, accessibility upgrades, and site improvements at Agawam Village have created welcoming spaces to improve residents’ quality of life,” said Stefano Basso, AIA, Principal at SV Design. “Accommodations will allow seniors to age in place gracefully and families to live comfortably in the spacious, modernized townhomes.”
Outdoor enhancements to improve the overall resident experience included the addition of a new basketball court, upgraded benches, and expanded parking areas to accommodate both residents and visitors.
A key challenge was completing construction while portions of the complex remained occupied. The project team implemented an eleven-phase approach with careful logistical coordination to minimize disruptions for residents throughout the project.
George Willwerth, President of Colantonio Inc., praised the collaboration behind the project’s early completion. “The exceptional teamwork on this project was a major contributor to its success,” he said. “Our close collaboration with IHA, Harborlight Homes, and SV Design enabled us to finish the work several weeks ahead of schedule.”
