Designing for the YMCA's Future
To expand its offerings and attract new members, the Sterling Campus of the Greater Beverly YMCA hired SV Design for two back-to-back projects: an expansion that added 9,000 square feet of much-needed space; and an all-new 12,500 square-foot Early Education Center that expands the community-based organization to accommodate more children in its daycare and after-school programs. Together the spaces substantially expand the services the YMCA can offer to their current and future members.
To expand its offerings and attract new members, the Sterling Campus of the Greater Beverly YMCA hired SV Design for two ambitious projects. The first was an expansion that added 9,000 square feet of much-needed space while incorporating renovations into the existing structure. Following this, we built an all-new 12,500 square-foot Early Education Center that expands the community-based organization to accommodate more children in its daycare and after-school programs. Together the spaces substantially expand the services the YMCA can offer to their current and future members.
Working closely with Judith Cronin, Executive Director of the Greater Beverly YMCA, SV architect Jen Hocherman created a plan that would optimize flow, and reconfigure their exercise studios, fitness areas, and lounge spaces. SV also renovated the Y’s locker rooms, and added an expanded physical therapy center and executive suite. The new addition rethinks the lobby and entrance space, adding a skylight and open design that gives the space a needed "wow" factor, as well as a more inviting path through the building. Improved handicap accessibility and design changes to the building’s exterior make a strong first impression for prospective members, staff, and current members.
