Breaking Ground on Transformative Upper Cape YMCA in Falmouth
Falmouth, MA — SV Design is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Don & Dottie Smith YMCA on the Upper Cape, marking a major milestone in bringing a long-awaited community hub to life in Falmouth. This signature project — designed in close collaboration with YMCA Cape Cod leadership and community partners — will deliver essential health, wellness, youth, and social spaces for tens of thousands of residents across the region.
The ceremonial groundbreaking, held on December 20, 2025, brought together local leaders, donors, volunteers, and community members to commemorate the start of construction on this highly anticipated facility. Set on Brick Kiln Road, the new YMCA will serve more than 10,000 people annually, furthering the YMCA’s mission of fostering healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility throughout the Upper Cape.
SV Design’s architectural vision for the 73,000-square-foot facility is rooted in local identity, community belonging, and purposeful design. The building will thoughtfully integrate spaces for an aquatics center, wellness and fitness areas, group exercise studios, youth and play spaces, community multipurpose rooms, and administrative support facilities — all tailored to support a diverse range of programs and activities.
SV Design’s approach emphasizes a welcoming, site-sensitive presence on Falmouth’s landscape — with a dramatic entry sequence, floor-to-ceiling windows, and traditional Cape Cod architectural details that reflect the region’s character and heritage.
“This groundbreaking represents years of visioning, community support, and thoughtful planning,” said Stacie Peugh, President & CEO of YMCA Cape Cod. “The Don & Dottie Smith YMCA will be the heart of the community — a place where everyone feels welcomed and empowered to pursue health, connection, and personal growth.”
SV Design is honored to contribute to this impactful project and looks forward to seeing the new YMCA emerge as a vibrant destination for wellness, community engagement, and lifelong learning on Cape Cod.
