Harborlight Homes and The Haven Project: Catalyst Housing
On Friday, May 9th, local officials, legislators, staff, and community members gathered at 65 Munroe St. in Lynn to open Catalyst Housing. The 23-unit, affordable, service-enriched studio apartments are specifically for young adults aged 18-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This was a joint venture between Harborlight Homes and The Haven Project that was over 7 years in the making with the support of SV Design and Keith Construction. Comprehensive supportive services will be provided by The Haven Project, with Harborlight staying on as property manager.
Each studio is energy-efficient, comes fully furnished with a private bathroom, and kitchen, and utilities are included. There is also a live-in Resident Manager, coin-op laundry, community rooms with large kitchens and on-site maintenance.
A small entry and lobby addition with an elevator was designed to allow separate access to the new apartments.

SV Design worked closely with the Historic Commission to ensure the building was eligible for tax credits, and that the windows and brick façade remained in line with the building’s historic aesthetic. The energy efficiency of the brick walls and wood framed roof were of particular focus for this building. Replacement windows were installed to increase efficiency while maintaining the historic character. Although small, the units feel spacious and bright with their large windows and tall ceilings. This project will be Energy Star Certified.
