Housing has always been a part of the YMCA’s mission. Affordable housing continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing residents of the North Shore. With a majority of Cabot Street fitness and educational programs moving to the new facilities at the nearby Sterling Center location, the opportunity to focus the Cabot Street YMCA on affordable housing became clear.

Working in collaboration with YMCA of the North Shore and Harborlight Community Partners, SV has designed a full gut renovation and expansion for this landmark 100-year-old building. Expanding a historic building in this downtown area required a sensitive and detailed approach to the design. At this time, the project has begun construction and will be completed in 2021. It will include 67 affordable housing studio units that will help with the tremendous need for housing in Beverly and on the North Shore.
