Housing has always been a part of the YMCA’s mission; affordable housing continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing residents of the North Shore. Working in collaboration with the YMCA of the North Shore and Harborlight Community Partners, SV is developing renovation and expansion plans for this more than 100-year-old building.

Gym facilities at this downtown location have been underutilized. With some programs moving to the soon-to-be-complete Sterling Center, the opportunity to focus the Cabot Street YMCA on affordable housing became clear. Still in the early phases, current plans anticipate renovating the existing 43 units and expanding each to incorporate kitchenettes. To balance the loss of units resulting from the reconfiguration, a fourth floor of approximately 20 units will be added.
