An 1891 shingle-style home that once served as a summer cottage, needed an overhaul and a lot of tender loving care. A couple from Boston was searching for their new home outside of the city and, with the help of their realtor, found this Cape Ann home. The historic charm of the home captivated them, but a major re-design was necessary. The expertise of an architect and interior designer was essential to take this house from an antiquated floor plan with a 1970’s renovation and addition, to a contemporary home with restored historic architectural details and technological amenities. The new, fluid layout embraces functional and timeless design while being perfectly suited to the homeowner’s family.

SV Design analyzed the structure and site, while meeting regularly with the homeowners to understand their wants and needs. This project fell in the heart of SV’s expertise: utilizing our architecture, interior design, landscape design, décor and furnishing services. Our talented team redesigned the property and house by adjusting the layout and flow of both. We preserved historic details and added contemporary touches to the home while enhancing the property’s setting with natural and low-maintenance landscape. The construction team for this project is Silva Brothers Construction.

The project will premiere on PBS’s This Old House on March 26th and the airing season will run through May 2020. Please check back for more updates on this exciting renovation and addition project! To check your local PBS listings, click here.
