Quiet in the City
Built in the 1800’s, the space has been host to a variety of uses over the years. Siemasko + Verbridge transformed the former commercial space into a timeless, inviting, and family friendly home. Previously two separate spaces, SV reworked the layout to create a cohesive floor plan, allowing more light transmission and better space utilization. The comprehensive renovation included four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, kitchen, office and library, living spaces as well as a private roof deck. Unable to change the location of the roof deck stairs located in the dining room, SV took an unconventional course. Rather than concealing the staircase, a focal point was constructed: a statement spiral stair case gently swirls up two stories.
Through the course of this comprehensive, and intricate, historic renovation, there was an added degree of difficulty: the clients were living abroad. Despite the difference of continents, SV worked closely with the clients. No detail was overlooked. The past is mixed with the present to create functional spaces throughout, without losing any charm.
